Several things were/are a challenge with this kit. First, there were no instructions sent with the kit. For the most part, assembly was pretty self-explanatory. However, with no...view more instructions, I did a lot of searching/reading on wiring for a 175, including a search on your website for a schematic. On your site, I found a schematic for a dual pick-up, two tone and two volume knob set-up, but that did not match the pre-soldering that had been done on the harness. I made my best guess based on your schematic, the soldering that had already been done, and what I read about 175 wiring. Not satisfied with it, and will likely have to take it apart and redo the whole harness.
And that brings me to second, as long as I’m going to do that, I might as well upgrade the electronics. The difference in sound between this guitar and my 335 is astoundingly dramatic. I didn’t expect top-of-the-line electronics, but I thought they would at least be acceptable.
And lastly, (so far) the nut is so tall, I’m going to have to remove it and cut it down to get the action down to where it stays in tune when played in the first position. It’s way beyond filing string slots.
On the positive side, the mahogany tone wood and gold hardware turned out as I imagined when I was making choices while ordering. I did a two-layer stain and used a satin lacquer for the finish. The black binding, black pick-guard, and ebony fretboard topped off the look nicely. One little drawback was the use of gold mounting screws for the black pick-ups and pick guard. Those stand out too much, and in my opinion should have been black as well. view less
