Just got this thin-line Strat kit and I’m very impressed. I was expecting a lot of finishing to do but you could literally just put some true-oil on it and bolt together. The fit b...view moreetween the neck and body is perfect. The package it came in was great. The shipping was very fast. I’m near Boston and it got here 10 days. I’m going to be doing more mods to this build like wiring with the Jimmy Page mod so I’ll have to do more routings to get it to fit. I’m also going to put filtertrons in. I’m very happy with this. Highly recommend. view less

I received this kit yesterday and finished my test fit this evening. This kit has a lot of problems, cheap hardware and pickups are expected in a kit so I am not marking it down fo...view morer any of that even though I will list some of those problems. I got his guitar for the body and neck expecting to buy all new hardware for it and hoped that the wood was in good shape. Let's start with what's good:
1. It came well packaged and was likely ready to finish out of the box if I hadn't done a test fit on it and got my oily hands all over it. It'll need to be cleaned now.
2. The neck is straight and the frets are level (It's to bad about the nut, more on that later.) Although there is evidence that the gluing and cutting process is imperfect the end result will be very playable after I change the nut.
3. I'm satisfied with the wood there was one little twig knot on the alder back but the alder and separate zebrawood were made from one piece each.
What's bad:
The “Bone Nut” …. The B string notch is to far south and the E string notch is to far north causing the two to be to close together and not playable. Also the B string notch was not deep enough and the string is too high and keeps coming out
The twig knot mentioned above
The body and neck joint will need a to be shimmed to straighten it out.
There’s no type of retaining system to keep the tremolo arm in the tremolo, just slides out
The chrome grips were not glued onto the plastic knobs correctly and came right off like they were never attached.
The bridge buzzes when you play.
The pickups sound thin and tinny
The back cover did not fit and needed a minor adjustment
The zebrawood is hard to cut as evidenced by the shred at the bottom of the f-hole cut, 20 minutes with some detail files corrected this
It'll be fun building this into a nice guitar though and even with the lousy pickups I could hear some real potential in the wood and design
