Our Story

Guitar Kit World was founded in 2013 in Australia by guitar enthusiasts who believed anyone should be able to build their own instrument. Marty Banner, one of the original founders, built the brand’s early reputation through hands-on build guides, detailed tutorials, and a deep understanding of what builders actually need.

Over the years, the business grew into the largest online destination for DIY guitar kits. Today, Guitar Kit World is owned and operated by Maker Kit World LLC, a U.S.-based company registered in Wyoming. We ship from warehouses in the United States and internationally to over 100 countries.

The mission has not changed: be the best place online for DIY guitar builders — the widest range of original kit designs, the most complete library of build tutorials, and a support team that helps you finish every build.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in a kit?

Stock kits include everything you need to assemble a playable instrument: body, neck, hardware, electronics, pickups, strings, and all mounting screws. Check individual product pages for exact contents. Browse all kits.

Do I need woodworking experience?

No. Our kits are pre-cut, pre-drilled, and designed so that a first-time builder can assemble them with basic tools. We have step-by-step assembly manuals and 370+ YouTube videos to walk you through every step.

What tools do I need?

At minimum: screwdrivers, sandpaper, and a sanding block. For finishing, you will need paint or stain supplies and a well-ventilated workspace. No power tools are required for basic assembly.

How long does shipping take?

It depends on which warehouse your kit ships from. From our U.S. warehouse: 6–12 business days. From our international warehouse (China): 2–6 weeks, regardless of your destination country. Pre-order kits: delivery timeline is listed on the product page, and you will be notified when it ships. Custom Shop kits: approximately 8 months (includes production and shipping). Delivery times are estimates and may vary.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. We ship to over 100 countries via UPS, FedEx, or Express Mail Service (EMS). Free shipping is available on select products. Customs duties and import taxes, if applicable, are the customer’s responsibility. We cannot ship to PO Box, APO, FPO, or DPO addresses. Read our full shipping policy.

What is your return policy?

We offer a 14-day satisfaction guarantee on unopened kits and 30-day coverage for defective or missing parts. Photo or video documentation is required for defect claims. Read our full return policy.

How good can a kit guitar sound?

Very good. Sound quality depends on the pickups, wood, and how well the guitar is set up. The tonewoods in our kits are the same species used by major manufacturers. Many of our builders are gigging musicians who perform with instruments built from our kits.
