A single-cutaway kit with a bolt-on neck and a bound fretboard. The mahogany neck fastens to the body with four screws through a chrome neck plate, so there is no neck joint to glue or clamp. The ebonized fretboard comes with single white binding fitted along both edges at the factory.

The electronics arrive pre-wired: two volume pots, two tone pots, the 3-way toggle switch and the output jack are joined on one harness with plug-in connectors, so the wiring goes together without soldering. Around that: a solid mahogany body with no top veneer, white pearloid trapezoid inlays, two chrome-covered humbuckers, an adjustable chrome bridge with a separate stop bar tailpiece, and six chrome sealed tuners.

Soldering 101

Do I need to solder electronics? No.

This kit ships with the electronics already wired. The pickups, controls, switch and output jack arrive as one finished loom. You drop it into the cavity, connect it, and close the cover. No iron, no solder, no diagram to follow.

Everything else about the build is unchanged: you still shape, sand, finish and set up the guitar yourself.

Our wiring diagrams show soldered connections, so they will not match your harness. If you are unsure which connector goes where, send us your order number and a photo of the control cavity and we will talk you through it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the neck need to be glued?

No. The neck is bolt-on: it fastens to the body with four screws through a chrome neck plate, so there is no glue and no clamping step.

How is it different from your other single-cutaway kits?

Most of our single-cutaway kits have a set-in neck that is glued in place. This one bolts on, comes pre-wired, and has a bound ebonized fretboard with an adjustable bridge and a separate stop bar tailpiece. For a pre-wired bolt-on kit with a maple fretboard and a wraparound bridge, see the pre-wired maple fretboard kit; for a glued set-in neck with an ebonized fretboard, see the set-neck mahogany kit.

How hard is it to build?

Beginner, 1 out of 10 on our build difficulty score. The neck bolts on and the wiring plugs together, so there is no gluing and no soldering. The steps that take care are seating the four bridge and tailpiece posts, setting the intonation, and grain-filling the mahogany before a gloss finish.

Is the fretboard real ebony?

No. It is ebonized wood. That means wood colored black to look like ebony.

Are the inlays real shell?

No. They are pearloid, a man-made material that looks like pearl or abalone shell.

How do I pick the right kit for me?

Take our quick kit quiz. It matches you to a kit based on your style and skill level. Every kit on our site also shows a difficulty score, so you can quickly see what fits your experience. Still unsure? Contact our Builder Success Team and we'll recommend one.

Can I swap the pickups, tuners, or other hardware?

Yes. Most of our kits use standard sizing for body cavities, mounting holes, and hardware, so aftermarket pickups from brands like Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio, or EMG fit right in. Same goes for tuners, bridges, and nuts. Many of our builders play the kit as-is and love it, while others enjoy swapping in their favorite parts to personalize the sound and feel. That's the beauty of building your own, you can make it exactly how you want it.

Do you sell DIY guitar kit parts separately?

No, at the moment, we don't sell guitar kit parts (bodies, necks, hardware, etc.) separately.

How long does it take to build?

Build time depends on the kit and on you, so every kit page shows a difficulty rating to help you pick one that fits your experience. The biggest variable is the finish: an oil or stain is ready in days, while lacquer or polyurethane can take from one week to three months to fully cure.

What finishing options can I use on my guitar?

You can use stain, paint, or oil-based finishes. Learn more about finishing techniques here.

Our advice: use a reference. In most cases, this will be a guitar you particularly like the look of and want to create something similar.

Safety note: rags used with an oil finish give off heat as they cure and can catch fire if left in a pile. Lay them flat to dry outdoors, or soak them in water, before you throw them away.

How long does shipping take, and do you ship internationally?

We ship to over 100 countries, and every order ships with a tracking number. Free shipping is available on U.S. orders and on many international kits: eligible free-shipping options appear at checkout for your location. Delivery time depends on which warehouse fulfills your kit, shown on the product page. In-stock kits typically arrive within the U.S. in 1 to 2 weeks, or worldwide from our international warehouse in 2 to 6 weeks. Pre-order and Custom Shop kits take longer (pre-orders about 3 to 6 months, Custom Shop about 8 months), with the timeline shown on the product page. If your order ships to a U.S. address, you pay no customs duties or import taxes, whether your kit ships from our U.S. warehouse or our international warehouse. Orders to other countries may be subject to customs duties or import taxes set by your country, which are the buyer's responsibility. See our Shipping Policy for details.
