What Makes This Kit Different

A wide neck made for big hands. The nut is 48 mm wide, where a standard 6-string kit neck is about 42 mm, so the strings sit further apart and thick fingertips have room on every fret. The neck has a full U-profile, which fills the palm instead of thinning out under it. If chords feel cramped on a regular neck, this is the kit built for you.

Around that neck: a fully hollow maple body with two f-holes and multi-ply binding, a set-in maple neck with a bound rosewood fretboard and abalone trapezoid inlays, a bone nut, one chrome-covered neck humbucker, a floating bridge and a chrome trapeze tailpiece. One pickup and two knobs keep the wiring simple.

Soldering 101

Do I need to solder electronics? Yes.

You wire the pickups, the controls and the output jack yourself. Every connection is a wire onto a lug, all of them inside one cavity, and you can redo any of them. Soldering is a skill you pick up in an afternoon, not a trade you need to have already.

What you will be wiring

1 humbucker, 1 volume, 1 tone

See the wiring diagram for this kit. That is the community thread for this exact layout, so you can ask about your build there and get an answer against a photo of your own cavity.

Just want the file? Download the diagram.

What you need

A soldering iron, rosin-core solder and wire cutters. None of it is specialist equipment and none of it is included in the kit.

Never soldered before?

Start with our guide to guitar electronics. It covers what each component does and how to make a joint that holds. If a joint fails you can heat it and redo it. Nothing in the electronics is single use.

If your kit does not match the diagram

It happens. Kits vary slightly between production runs in wire colours and occasionally in components, which can make a general diagram confusing. You are not misreading it.

Send us your order number with a close-up of the wiring harness and a wider shot of the whole control cavity, and our wiring technician will send you the correct diagram for your kit or draw one for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How wide is the neck on this kit?

The nut is 48 mm wide. Most 6-string guitar kits use a nut of about 42 mm, so this neck gives every string a little more room, which helps players with large hands or thick fingertips.

Is it a 6-string or a 7-string guitar?

It is a 6-string guitar. The neck is as wide as many 7-string necks at the nut, but it is drilled for 6 tuners in a 3+3 layout and takes standard 6-string electric guitar strings.

What is a U-profile neck?

U-profile describes the shape of the back of the neck. It is rounder and fuller than the common C-shape, so it fills the palm, which many players with big hands find more comfortable.

How do I pick the right kit for me?

Take our quick kit quiz. It matches you to a kit based on your style and skill level. Every kit on our site also shows a difficulty score, so you can quickly see what fits your experience. Still unsure? Contact our Builder Success Team and we'll recommend one.

Can I swap the pickups, tuners, or other hardware?

Yes. Most of our kits use standard sizing for body cavities, mounting holes, and hardware, so aftermarket pickups from brands like Seymour Duncan, DiMarzio, or EMG fit right in. Same goes for tuners, bridges, and nuts. Many of our builders play the kit as-is and love it, while others enjoy swapping in their favorite parts to personalize the sound and feel. That's the beauty of building your own, you can make it exactly how you want it.

Do you sell DIY guitar kit parts separately?

No, at the moment, we don't sell guitar kit parts (bodies, necks, hardware, etc.) separately.

How long does it take to build?

Build time depends on the kit and on you, so every kit page shows a difficulty rating to help you pick one that fits your experience. The biggest variable is the finish: an oil or stain is ready in days, while lacquer or polyurethane can take from one week to three months to fully cure.

What finishing options can I use on my guitar?

You can use stain, paint, or oil-based finishes. Learn more about finishing techniques here.

Our advice: use a reference. In most cases, this will be a guitar you particularly like the look of and want to create something similar.

Safety note: rags used with an oil finish give off heat as they cure and can catch fire if left in a pile. Lay them flat to dry outdoors, or soak them in water, before you throw them away.

How long does shipping take, and do you ship internationally?

We ship to over 100 countries, and every order ships with a tracking number. Free shipping is available on U.S. orders and on many international kits: eligible free-shipping options appear at checkout for your location. Delivery time depends on which warehouse fulfills your kit, shown on the product page. In-stock kits typically arrive within the U.S. in 1 to 2 weeks, or worldwide from our international warehouse in 2 to 6 weeks. Pre-order and Custom Shop kits take longer (pre-orders about 3 to 6 months, Custom Shop about 8 months), with the timeline shown on the product page. If your order ships to a U.S. address, you pay no customs duties or import taxes, whether your kit ships from our U.S. warehouse or our international warehouse. Orders to other countries may be subject to customs duties or import taxes set by your country, which are the buyer's responsibility. See our Shipping Policy for details.
