Maple is a class of hard, wood species in the genus Acer, (including about 65 species of trees and shrubs), primarily native to the Northern Hemisphere, and is produced in a number of finishes. The wood of different maples is known for its distinct patterns, which are caused by different growth rates on opposite sides of a leaf or twig.
