This is a great project, especially if one doesn’t have experience in building guitars. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because of two main issues that I found. The first is the tuning heads are pretty loose and will probably need to be replaced (I’m going to replace all the hardware eventually but that’s just to my liking. Everything else is excellent) or else it’s hard to keep in tune. The second issue is the nut is a little high and it will probably due good to replace it and cut a new nut out of something like bone or maybe some sort of graphite. This can lead to issues with fret buzz and intonation if it’s too high. If you don’t know how to do this than your local music store should be able to do it with out too many issues. Everything else arrived in great condition. The pickups come pre-soldered and are pretty easy to figure out where all the clips go. The only soldering I did was grounding the system to the bridge. I would definitely buy from this company again and I plan to. Also the customer service from Marty was above and beyond anything I could have asked for. I highly recommend this.

i came across this site after falling in love with a natural mahogany gibson les paul in a best buy pricing around $1000 being totally new to playing guitar i couldn’t justify that price tag. Being a person who likes to busy themselves with projects i pondered making my own. after 1 google search i found myself here. The kit was ordered near the end November and was delivered closer to the end of December. It was very obviously high quality and i was extremely pleased with the product for the price i found it perfectly reasonable. The packaging was very noteworthy compared to other kits online it had a very nice custom Styrofoam crate made specifically for the shapes of the pieces inside( nt just a couple cardboard boxes) which is very important to ensure everything arrives safely! My specific kit came with a few things missing however, there were no wire routing holes and missing a few electronics. Upon emailing my concerns i was responded to very quickly and found them very helpful. Due to the Christmas season it was understandable there were a few things missed in the busyness of the season. i was provided with options to send it back or help overcoming it myself. i opted to DIY it, after all it is a DIY kit. In the end i got the guitar i paid for and experience understanding actually how it works.

overhaul experience was very exciting and fulfilling. 🙂 thanks to Marty for all his help and customer service.

FYI… Not for sure what the gentleman was describing. However tuning heads on many guitars are “loose” until you tighten under pressure by winding the strings up. If you attempt to tighten them too much, you could crack the headstock. Have not purchased one yet, however as far as customer service response to questions, model/option selections and quality/ease of website they get 5 stars for sure. Very pleasant so far.

This is in response to Lawrence Moore. I apologize, I should have clarified that they were loose after I had already tightened the strings up to pitch. I think they were just a bad set. No fault of this company however. That’s just how the dice rolls sometimes. Still a fabulous product and I have a set of the Gibson G-force tuners on there now. Time to Rock and Roll! Have a good day 🙂

I placed my order for an customized LP kit the day after Christmas. There was a bit of a wait, but it arrived on February 12th in New York. Everything was nicely packed and the kit was in much better shape than later kits I’ve received from other manufacturers. In addition to the fact that the guitar was obviously done to high quality specifications, the support I received from Marty was first rate. Admittedly, I chose to replace many kit parts with superior items like Seymour Duncan Slash pickups, Bourns pots, Orange Drop Caps and Grover Locking Tuners, but the guitar I ended up building is my clear favorite of any I own. (I used Timber Mate grain filler, StewMac ColorTone dyes and TruOil for finishing.) It has excellent tone, and the neck is extremely fast and playable.I did mark down for the fact that the kit was missing some wires and strap buttons, which forced me to place an order with Stewart MacDonald for those pieces. Also, one of the back covers did not fit.
